We're proud to announce that Jim Mooy will once again be our director for this year's camp! Jim is a lecturer at Santa Barbara City College and also directs several ensembles, including the SBCC Symphony Orchestra and the award-winning Lunch Break Jazz Band.
Mark your calendar and make sure to include this popular class as part of your summer plans! Staffed by a host of professional musicians, classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks, starting June 12th and ending with a concert July 19th.
The concert is at 6PM at the United Methodist Church.
Class 1: BEGINNING (8am to 9am) is for the complete beginner who has never ever played before. It is split into groups for flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet and trombone only, with specialists for each section.
Class 2: INTERMEDIATE (8am to 10am) is for the beginning student who has one to two years experience, and is typically in the fourth, fifth, or sixth grade. The first hour is combined concert band under the direction of Jim Mooy; the second hour is split into groups according to instrument type, with specialists helping each section.
Class 3: ADVANCED (10am to noon) is for the student with more than two years experience, who is probably in junior high or the last year of grade school. The first hour is sectionals and the second one is concert band.
Important note to parents: The first day of class, June 12th, is for registration, orientation and audition only, starting at 9am and finishing by 11am or sooner. You may wish to wait, especially if your child is a beginner.
